Wang Kung Shou Tao

Way of the Empty Hand

Wang Kung Shou Tao or Way of the Empty Hand is an Internal Martial Art form. Taught along traditional lines advancement is through applying oneself to the teachings.  We practice various themes of the martial art including Chi Kung forms, techniques and weapon forms such as Sabre  Staff and Kwan Dao.  Being an internal art we also practice meditation to aid the development of Chi and the art as a whole.

Background

Although a Chinese fighting art, Kung Shou of the Wang family has for the past 100 years been taught in the local district of Koko Nor (Basically Mongolian).

The art was brought to Scotland when Grand Master Wang-Jo-Mei arrived in 1951.Wang-Jo-Mei was educated at Qutan monastery as a Taoist.

There is little knowledge of the Wang family prior to 1840, as Grand Master Wang-Jo-Mei claimed that one must earn his own fame rather than rely on that of his ancestors, to try and trace the history of one family of Wang in China would be impossible.

Today

The art passed onto Master J. Bell in 1977 and is continued to this day

We practice during the evening in a small Scout Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland.  The form of instruction is a small number of students to an instructor.

The instructors are in close contact with Master J. Bell who will visit on occasion bringing instruction, wisdom and continuity to the art as it is taught.

Students are periodically graded to ascertain their continuing understanding of the instruction given.  See the Grading Structure page for an overview.

We are open to anyone of basic fitness between the ages of 18 to ....
